My, how time files! This year’s group of interns from Tokyo’s Musashino Art University bid Kamiyama farewell today after two weeks of hard work and hard play. Sora, Marino, Hibiyan, and Taanaa kept a daily diary on the Japanese side of this website, but we haven’t managed to make English versions for them all the entries, so instead, here are some highlights of the past two weeks as seen through the eyes of the 2008 Musabi interns.  Take a look at the Japanese Musabi profile page with links to all their Japanese diary entries - there are plenty of photos to enjoy even if you can’t read Japanese.

Kamiyama's first Bo-Tsuki festival in 38 years! A team of men use ropes to hoist a log up and down, pounding the ground until it is flat and solid. This used to be a prelimary step to erecting a building, and it was made into a sort of contest, with different teams competing at Bo-Tsuki festivals.

There is a momonga living in Daniel's sculpture up on Oawa-yama mountain! They are nocturnal creatures, but if you make enough noise, they'll wake up! (sorry, momonga!) Momonga are a little like flying squirrels, in that they have skin flaps between their limbs that enable them to glide through the forest. (photo: Shinya Ominami)

Helping out at the August Forestry Management Day

Yummy! Of course the best part of doing the Forestry Management Day is the home-cooked lunch! Thanks, Chan!

Mr. Iwamaru and Mr. Nakahara. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks, interns, for all your hard work! Let’s see you in Kamiyama again someday!
