Ruins of Romance
Adam's Diary 2009.2.12
Two local architects are practicing archery amidst some crumbling ruins near the touristy part of town, right by that bagel shop. They are both chewing cinnamon flavored bubble gum.
c: “I shall no longer romanticize ruins.”
b: “But everything ends up as ruins.”
c: “Not if the building spontaneously returns to its base materials of construction upon fulfilling its essential purpose.”
b: “But, how will you know when the building is done working?”
c: “I won’t know…the building shall speak for itself when it is ready to retire. When it has deemed itself obsolete, it shall lie down rather than allow itself to be converted into a pigeon den or worse, a museum showcasing its nonfunctioning self.”
b: “How shall it warn the occupants or tenants of its impending return to soil?”
c: “It will yawn.”
