Dawn in the valley.

The air is crisp like a mountain potato and there is the smell of fish in the pillow.

The mountain potato contest is today.  The day when people from all over the countryside bring in a mountain potato that most resembles this year's theme…which is:  KINGFISHER.  Only the first 50 entrants are allowed to participate.  So of course, people have been camping out in the queue for days.  Poor old Mrs. Cedar fell asleep with the best kingfisher doppelganger in her pocket and her best friend Miss Sudachi tiptoes up to the judges.  No free trip to Hokkaido for the girl dancing with Mister Sandman.  Maybe, next year.

A bell chimes to announce the winner:  Miss Sudachi.  Mrs. Cedar slumbers.
