The image in the title picture is the “after” picture from our forestry management activities of July 27.
Now for the “before” picture:

The area to the southeast of the top of Oasa Mountain. It's pretty hairy in there. Not really possible to walk around without high boots and a scythe.

It’s changed so much, you’d hardly think it’s the same place!
To be present for this dramatic change, it gives such a sense of both accomplishment and emotional release.

Mr. Higuchiyama is pretty handy with a weedeater. His name means Fire Mouth Mountain, but he's actually a pretty cool dude!

You can get this experience with just a few hours of labour.

Not to mention…

I'll leave the specifics of our lunch menu to Chan, as I'm sure he's got an article about it up his sleeve.

You can also have a delicious homemade meal!

That’s why I just can’t stop doing Forestry Management. I’m hooked! (haha)

Next month’s schedule is as follows.

Day and time: August 24, 2008 (Sunday) 9am to 4pm (Cancelled in the event of rain)
Meeting Place: Jinryo, Kamiyama (on top of Oawa Mountain)
Clothing: Work clothes and boots
Fee: 500 yen (for insurance and lunch)

*The four summer interns from Musashino Art University will be participating next month!

The meeting place is marked on the map in pink. It’s not far from Kamiyama Onsen.

Drive past Michi no Eki, keeping Kamiyama Junior High on your right, and you'll come to a three-way junction. Turn left onto the road just before that which leads up the mountain.
