This will be the creation of a new form of wave-like expression, a fusion of body percussion (Stomp) and Awa Odori dance, people who are interested in art and those who are not, having a good time drawing each other in and being drawn in together. Each group will use a different instrument (prop), use it to create and practice a unique sound and part, then play as an ensemble. This act will be recorded as a five-minute video piece. Proposed shoot locations include Yorii-za Theater (June 26), Sake Warehouse, Oawa Shrine, at the outdoor puppet theater, in the woods, etc.

Through this introductory activity, Rick will use this new expression as a common language to create a shape for the Rhythm Universal workshop.

Rick Willett has been a dancer / drummer since age 2. He was a member of the percussion group Stomp for almost 10 years, and before that performed internationally both as a dancer and drummer. Rick has worked extensively with children and rhythm, teaching workshops for Stomp as well as his own work with Dance for Tolerance.
