Torikabuto Hunting
Diary 2008.5.27
These beautiful purple-blue flowers are the jewel of the autumn hills. The name means “bird helmet” because the flower is shaped like the hat worn in traditional bugaku performances, which is also called “torikabuto.” The plant is poisonous. When it’s budding, it looks similar to edible plants like Nirinso, Seri, and Gennoshoko, and often people accidentally poison themselves. In flower language, it means “beautifully shining”, “revenge” as well as ”mistaking one for another” – scary!
