Keiju Nakajima Concert at Yamani House
Diary 2007.10.16
The other day, musician Keiju Nakajima held a concert in Kamiyama. Keiju was a KAIR participant in 2001 and now he lives in the Shimobun region of Kamiyama (however, currently they are staying in Tottori prefecture in preparation for the birth of their second child) The concert venue was Yamani House, an old farmhouse in Shimobun. With all the sliding screens taken out, the first floor is a 24-jo (tatami mat) room.
As a decoration for the event, Maeno-san did some batik indigo dying on the theme of “prayer” as a backdrop.
The handmade lanterns (made by who?) matched the wooden interior well. It was a very arty atmosphere.
This was the first Keiju concert we’d had for a long while. From Southeast Asia, to guitar sounds of Spain and Portugal, we were taken on a tour of the globe with the music. Mixed in with some standard songs, Keiju also played some of the tunes he composed when he came to Kamiyama six years ago, which made everyone nostalgic.
This was a common scene;
But rather than listening, I think it looks like he’s dozing off a bit… (ha ha)
Speaking of which, I hear one of the interns from Musashino Art University made a giant cookie shaped like Mr. Sato’s face and displayed it during the (Musabi) school festival.
After we’d enjoyed the long-awaited Sounds of Keiju, what’s this?
A delicious snack of steamed dumplings, buckwheat soup, and pickled wild yam stems. Plus, plus! Good old-fashioned amazake to drink.
(All this for just 1,000 yen, they’re not charging enough!!!)
Even without any liquor, everyone naturally got into the swing of things.
We all had a great time. When his baby, which is due to be born at the end of the month, gets a bit bigger, I’m sure Keiju and family will come back to Kamiyama again.
It was a full night of pleasures in Kamiyama for spirit, sounds, and stomach.
