A taste of body percussion
Diary 2011.5.24
+Rhythm workshop by Rick Willet+
Rick’s workshop gives people a taste of what body percussion is all about, so they can see how fun it is!
(NOTE:This event was held on 21st May 2011)
The workshop was spread over two sessions, one in the afternoon and another in the evening.
It attracted more than 50 people with some travelling from Tokushima city to take part.
We learned how to create different rhythms using our nails, hands and feet.
In the spirit of the Awa-Odori we say
‘Dancing idiots or watching idiots, if they are both idiots then you might as well dance!’
This is a great way to describe the experience of the rhythm workshop!
Having Rick as a ‘conductor’ is such a fantastic experience.
He has a powerful presence and although we speak a different language, we were convinced that we can communicate without the use of words: it felt just right.
We are so pleased with all the positive feedback we received after the event.
We are sure this Kamiyama Philfarmony will be something fabulous.
The day after the first workshop, Koko san and Fumi san invited us to their place for a welcoming party for Rick.
There is no need to mention it, but everywhere Rick goes there will always be a ‘rhythm universe’; the rhythm is infectious! We all enjoyed great food and the great harmony we created.
Rick seems to be really taken with Awa-Odori.
His idea is to fuse Awa-Odori and body percussion into something completely new for the final piece.
We are so excited and can’t wait to see what it is going to be like!
Don’t you wanna join us?
