I’ve been called a ‘crazy dad’ because I was taking hundreds of photographs in a wacky way while we had a BBQ.  I also managed to fix an outdoor light system for the BBQ which apparently adds weight to the ‘crazy dad’ argument.  Not sure if I agree with these comments, however I can totally understand where they came from…

Anyway, I’ve still been poking around the house and took some more photographs of the original ceiling, beams, old electronics and all.  You can see the way the new lightweight ceiling has been cowboyed into place by chipping the walls and sawing the beams.  Crap bits of wood have been nailed to the beams to hold the flimsy structure up.  Easy enough to rip down when I have a bit of energy in the future.  Messy job though.  Note: I’ll have to fix the holes in the wooden ceiling.

I took these pictures to try and figure out where exactly the noises in our roof are coming from.  I can’t remember if I already mentioned that we have civets in our roof, but that’s the state of play.  Hakubishin is the Japanese name for them and they have been rattling around upstairs far too much.  They tend to pooh in one area and we’ve got curious staining in some rooms on the ceiling.  I fear that above our heads is a huge pile of rotting shite and one day the fake ceiling might collapse under the weight and then I’d have a problem.  So how do I go about getting rid of these creatures?  I ‘ve got some ideas how, but I want to do it humanely if possible.  They are obviously up there cause it’s cosy and quiet and dark and warm.  They have a nice orange tree nearby, and they can nip out and have some food and come back and pinch a loaf on our ceiling.  So, I decided to try and make it less comfortable for them.  I started by attaching a piece of plastic sheeting over the hole.  I hoped this would make it easy to get out but more difficult for them to get back in..

I wonder, will it work?
