Preparing for a Festival
Diary 2008.7.4
Thanks to everyone’s help, the Halakala concert at ChanTak was a beautiful, magic-filled evening.
Lots of lovely things happened, but I think the best thing was how everyone’s energy was kneaded together; the musicians, the assisting staff and Green Valley members, and of course the audience. Now, I’m most hit by that as I reflect back over the past few days.
When you put on a handmade concert like we did, it feels like a festival from the time you get up that morning. It may be tough, sure it is. But it’s a very exciting time.
The men set up the stage and did other outside work. The women worked on preparing lunch and dinner for everyone.
“It’s only natural that everyone who helps out should sit down together and eat a good meal.” That’s the way we do things in Kamiyama. The cooking team really put out their best.
For lunch, everyone’s voices came together for a big “itadakimasu!” Good food, good people.
From the afternoon the band had a full-on rehearsal. I hadn’t heard the band play in a long time, so I took a picture for posterity.
After this, we made the ticket counter, the drink corner, and some signs for the parking lot. Time flew by and before we knew it it was time for the show to begin.
During the show, I was in charge of the lights. The stage was so beautiful that I just wanted to drink it all in, but when I tried to take a picture my camera gave me an error message and I wasn’t able to.
After the concert ended, during mealtime, for some reason my camera returned to normal again…
Actually, whenever I do lights for a concert my camera always screws up when I try to take pictures and I’m never able to get any shots of the show.
If anyone who was at the show was able to take any good pictures, I’d be really happy if you could share them with me.
The next day, sick old me had to spend the whole day in bed due to the long and hard “festival” the day before, but it was worth it for all the lovely treasures I recieved.
Thank you!
