↑I wonder if the title photo surprised you? Yes, it’s the original mood-maker, our very own Mr. Sato. By this point, he was at his third party of the day and still going strong! He’s not much for singing, but he likes to dance. (haha)

On September 6 we had the official Kamiyama Artist in Residence welcome party, and then we had our nearly-always-customary karaoke afterparty. Andrea and (just-arrived) Karin and partner wisely put their health first and skipped the party, but about a dozen folks got together for a sing-along.

How international! The Russian-English (ha ha) duo of Emma and Nikolai take the stage. You can bet they light up the school and bank where they work with energy like that.

For someone like myself who can’t drink, can’t sing, and can’t dance, there’s not a lot left to do at karaoke, so why go? I love the atmosphere! (ha ha)

And so I present to you a photo report of our night on the town.

First up, the star crooner, Kazuyoshi Yoshizawa!

Is that a bear? No, it's oil painter and KAIR 2003 participant Kazuyoshi Yoshizawa. He sang every song with plenty of heart and soul. With such talent, some people suggested a career change. Look even his shirt is smoking! Oh, wait, it's an illustration of a mosquito coil.

Next, Liz Roth the American Songbird!

Liz Roth (KAIR 2003) in town all the way from Oklahoma! Liz, where did you find the time to learn that Sakamoto Kyu song??

Following, our homecoming queen who just moved to Takamatsu, Chalice steps up to the mic!

With a body primed by Brazilian Jiujitsu, Chalice has real presence! Yes, this is the one who whipped Nikolai in an arm wrestling match. She can't be beat on the stage either.

And now Joe, back from America and living in Muroto!

Such feeling! His depth of expression evokes the enka stylings of Mori Shinichi, but Joe is really more of a rock man in the song department.

As well, some of Emma’s friends (sorry, didn’t catch their names!) did a tune.

An ALT from Kagawa prefecture. I heard her say many times, “Kamiyama is such an interesting place!”

For our final number, everyone sang our usual song, “KAIR” to the tune of “YMCA.”

If I think back twenty years, I never would have dreamed I’d be seeing such a thing. And now this has become an everyday event… this town sure has changed!
