Ami: Kathak Dance
Ami encountered Kathak Dance during her travels in India. In 2002 she went began studying the North Indian Classical Dance, “Kathak Dance” under Om Prakash Mishra. After that, she saw Manjari Chaturvedi perform Sufi Kathak on stage in Vanarasi, India and, being deeply moved by the experience, began studying under Manjari Chaturvedi in 2005. She studied both the Indian Classical Dance “Kathak” as well as “Sufi Kathak,” which incorporates the Islamic Sufi tradition. In Japan, she has developed her own “Hiten-mai” (Flying Angel Dance) and performs in accompaniment to musicians of various genres.
Half of the year, Ami studies dance in India, and the other half is spent holding performances across Japan.
